Landlords and tenants are eligible to apply. Tenants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Due to an influx of applications to the Chatham Emergency Rental Assistance Program the application portal is now closed. If you submitted your complete application with supporting documentation by Thursday, 2.23.2023 your application will be reviewed for eligibility. If documentation is missing, we may reach out to you and/or your Landlord for additional information but this does not guarantee payment. If funds are available, then you will receive ERAP payments. Tenants and landlords are encouraged to check the portal for status updates as well as review email communication from the team. If you need additional resources, please contact United Way of the Coastal Empire @ 2-1-1.
Your current gross household income must not exceed 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) as defined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Your household income must always remain within the program limits for continued participation.
Note:
Priority will be given to households with a household income of 50% or less of Area Median Income (AMI) or with one or more household members that have been unemployed for 90 days or more.

The Chatham County COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Fund is a program that provides financial assistance to eligible households for the payment of rent, rent arrears, security deposits, utilities, utility arrears, internet, water, sewer, and trash removal. This program seeks to fill the gaps for those, who have lost income because of COVID-19. Applicants are only eligible to receive a maximum of 15 months of assistance.
To be eligible to receive the emergency rental, utilities, and or security deposit assistance, you must meet the criteria below.
Assistance will be based on current household income and total monthly rent, utilities, and/or security deposit amount. There is no cap to the amount of assistance received but amounts above $7,000 will require special approval.
Yes. However, your unemployment must be a result of COVID-19.
No. The applicant is not required to have arrears to be eligible for emergency rental assistance.
Yes, applicants who receive subsidized housing are eligible to apply up to the monthly tenant responsible portion.
Yes. With special approval, applicants can receive assistance for up to 3 months of
prospective rent. However, this only happens once, and you can only receive arrear
payments after three months of future rent payments.
Yes, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. However, you will still need to provide a copy of your lease agreement.
